Whilst Harley-Davidson have used hydraulic lifters on all the OHV Big Twin models since 1948, the Panhead and Shovelhead versions were not renowned for their reliability. With the advent of the Evolution engine, for the 1984 model year, a much improved design was introduced. All of the aftermarket "crate motors" styled on the Evo, also use this type of lifter design.
We always install new lifters as part of any rebuild or camshaft upgrade, in order to maintain reliability. Failure of the roller, axle, or needle bearings can cause expensive failure of other components, so, needless to say, we only supply and use lifters of a known high quality.
These S&S cast replacements also wear very well and are far less expensive than the aftermarket billet versions. They are also available in black powdercoat. Supplied with 12 point fasteners and gaskets.
